Cornwall Life - August 2014

He's worked at Ottolenghi in Islington and Fifteen, and now Cuban-born chef Ruben has settled in North Cornwall. His new venture, Nomada atThe Beach Hotel in Bude, is partly Spanish with a world influence. Diners can choose from tapas at the bar or a table in the restaurant of this boutique hotel overlooking Summerleaze beach.

“Bude has a new restaurant star”

I have eaten some amazing meals over the years and this was up there. The clever flavour combinations combined with everything cooked to perfection made for a fine dining experience. Absolutely fantastic. The portions were a good size, but not too big, so we weren't too full to enjoy a sweet. Which is just as well, because they were just as imaginative and tasty as the rest of the meal. And the timing of the delivery of each course was absolutely spot on - not too quick and not overly long. We will definitely be going back - and quite soon.

“Fabulous food in glorious panoramic setting”

The views from the plate glass windows are the perfect backdrop for this quirky, unique restaurant. The teriyaki beef was exquisite and we shall definitely be back to sample it again. Lovely that Bude now has such a sophisticated restaurant to visit. Highly recommended..

“A Fabulous Cuban Dinner”

There was nothing to fault with this excellent restaurant. It sits up high on the cliff top overlooking the bay and harbour at Bude which makes for great views out of the huge windowed doors. The menu is very select with items perhaps a little different to the normal fare. Each dish was superb, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Chef was helpful in personally explaining the menu choices we made and, whilst all of the staff were attentive, a special commendation must go to Thomas, he was a great sport and no request was too much trouble for him. This was truly one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in many years. Very highly recommended.

"Fantastic lunch with my family"

Arrived at nomada and was struck by the beautiful view and the great atmosphere of this boutique hotel that welcomes non residents with warmth and a smile. We ordered five dishes from the tapas menu and a group of us that included five children ate delicious, fresh and beautifully cooked food served quickly and with a smile. Having eaten lots of tapas in london it was refreshing to sample such fresh and delicious food in such a wonderful location. We met the head chef Ruben who is passionate and charming. We will be back.
